Acupuncture: Antenatal & Postnatal
& for Overdue Dates: to support spontaneous labour
Pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal phases are seen as times of great transition by acupuncture practitioners. Acupuncture in pregnancy has been used for many years to address a number of common pregnancy complaints and conditions. Acupuncture is a form of traditional medicine which involves inserting very thin needles into specific points (known as meridians) in your body, to help balance the flow of life force (known as Chi or Qi).
Acupuncture is extremely beneficial for:
- Nausea and vomiting, & heartburn
- Anxiety, low mood and/or depression (antenatal and postnatal)
- Back discomfort.
- Pelvic pain,
- Constipation
- Relaxation and sleep imbalance
- Re-energise after childbirth and complications associated with breastfeeding, or breastmilk supply.
Overdue dates treatments (from 40 weeks of pregnancy)
Acupuncture is known to promote the baby’s downward movement into the birth canal and naturally encourage the production of hormones needed to instigate childbirth. Through realigning the balance of your physiological and emotional welfare, your body will be better equipped to respond for spontaneous labour.
